Self Employed or Business Owner

In the quest to starting your own business. Don't ever see yourself as self-employed, rather   consider yourself a business owner and yes there's a difference.
While you're self employed you are at the centre of the circle.
You're a key ingredient to the running of the business.  Without you there in person the business crumbles.

On the other hand as a business owner, you're able to set-up a system that enables the business work fine whether you're there or not .  Setting up a system depends on doing two things successfully

1. Delegate as much as you can. You cannot keep doing everything and being everywhere 24/7. You will in time break down and so will your business.
Take time out to teach your employees what to do  per time. Assign different responsibilities to them and take the load of you.

This leads to my 2nd point.

2. Empower your employees to make the right decisions by explaining your philosophy and thoughts process.

Delegation will utterly fail without empowering employees to make decisions. If they (employees ) have to come back to you for every answer and what to do (action) then you have not delegated effectively.
For employees you have delegated to to be successfully at their assigned task, you need to explain the philosophy and thought processes behind every decision you make.
When this is understood,  employees will know what to do whenever a similar situation arises again.

You can only successfully make the transition from being self employed person to being a business owner when you're  no longer necessary to the daily running of the company.

When this happens,  it frees you up to work on the business improvement, innovation & strategy needed to move the business forward.
This is where every entrepreneur should be ;outside the circle not inside.
This way, you're sure of your business out-living you.
Bottom line when you're self employed,  the business runs you. When you're a business owner, you run the business.

MCDONALD'S GIVE LOVING SEASON

Valentine season is upon us again and it's that season where companies offer specials to celebrate the season with their customers .

McDonald's a successful brand in the FMCG sector in united states is doing things a little differently. They are choosing customers at random asking them to display affection to strangers as payments for their meals.

The advertisement is quite emotional as unsuspecting customers are either told to call their parents to say they love them, or express their love for family members with them. It's a moment and I bet will be remembered for these ordinary people. Watch the video above

ARE YOU VISIBLE ENOUGH FOR THE NEXT LEVEL OF YOUR CAREER

You might be the hardest worker in your organization and the one everyone wants on their team- but if you’re not in people thoughts you will be passed up for new projects, additional responsibilities, awards and promotions.

Just like businesses spend tons in creating a successful brand- so when people think of a product or services they think of them, your success in your career or workplace beyond hard work is dependent on how often, how much or how readily you pop up in people’s thought.

To be successful in your career you there must be something you are known for ·

Are you that one person who answers mails promptly? ·

Are you that one person who takes ownership of every situation? ·

Are you that one person who takes pleasure in the satisfaction of both external and internal customers (colleagues?) ·

Are you that one person who is not afraid of taking up extra responsibilities?

 The list is endless….

In today’s world of work – hard work, being a team player, and adhering to basic professional standards are baseline expectations of all employees. Promotions, recognition, and reward more often land on professionals who have learned how to maximize their exposure to the right people and the right opportunities.

To grow on the job and advance to the next level you need to brand yourself and be visible. Yes I said it… let people see you and this is not the same as “eye service.

It’s possible for your hard work to be over looked ….I have seen this happen and this won’t change until there is something compelling about you or your work.

Just to mention, below are a few tips on how to become visible at your workplace; ·

Volunteer for special projects or activities or take up additional responsibilities ·

Learn how to toot your horn or talk about your accomplishments ·

Build a network of alliances within and outside your organizations ·

Stay updated and informed in your industry · Be curious in a positive way.

Ask questions and engage the right people ·

Attend functions organized by your organization ·

Generate results ·

Build a relationship with your boss

It’s possible for all your efforts to go unnoticed in an organization and it is up to you change that because it might just be hurting your career.
